Since November 2025, when the project officially broke ground, significant progress has continued across the Organic City ecosystem as we advance our long-term vision of creating a sustainable, community-driven destination in Tana River County.
Organic City is a landmark initiative: a Sh39 billion, 12‑year development that will deliver 25,000 new housing units and generate at least 2,000 jobs, transforming the socio‑economic landscape of the region. While much of the work taking place today is foundational in nature, every milestone contributes to a larger purpose: establishing a place where opportunity, education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, hospitality, and community development can grow together.
Organic City was never envisioned as a single project. It was envisioned as an ecosystem – an evolving platform designed to bring people together around the shared belief that development should improve lives, create opportunity, and respect both people and the environment.
STRENGTHENING THE FOUNDATION
Over the past several months, efforts have focused on strengthening the physical, operational, and organizational foundations necessary for long‑term success.
Work has continued on:
-
Site preparation and land clearing
-
Masterplanning and infrastructure studies
-
Landscape concepts and environmental design
-
Community engagement and stakeholder coordination
-
Operational systems to support future growth
These efforts are often less visible than buildings or roads, but they are among the most important investments a project can make. Sustainable communities are built on strong systems, careful planning, and a commitment to long‑term thinking. The project’s 20‑acre pilot phase – already underway – serves as the proving ground for the systems that will scale across the entire 500‑acre development.
THE HOUSE OF CONKRITE (THOC)
One of the most important developments within the Organic City ecosystem has been the continued growth of THOC – The House of Conkrite.
Since opening its doors, THOC has evolved into a gathering place for entrepreneurs, professionals, government officials, students, and community members. As the project’s command center and first visible signal of a new standard of development, it has demonstrated that meaningful progress begins with people – not plans.
New operational programs, hospitality improvements, training initiatives, and community engagement activities have been introduced, strengthening THOC’s role as a hub for innovation and collaboration.
PREPARING FOR THE NEXT PHASE
As we look ahead, preparations are underway for the next stage of mobilization across the Organic City ecosystem. This includes the development of structured programs designed to attract and support:
-
Students and interns
-
Young professionals
-
Entrepreneurs
-
Volunteers
-
Researchers
-
Community development participants
LANDSCAPE, AGRICULTURE AND COMMUNITY DESIGN
Current planning efforts include concepts for:
-
Community parks and green corridors
-
Tree‑lined walkable neighborhoods
-
Agricultural districts and demonstration gardens
-
Landscape cooperatives
-
Community gathering spaces
THE CLAY DISTRICT VISION
Among the concepts currently being explored is the Clay District, a proposed residential neighborhood designed around affordability, beauty, sustainability, and community interaction.
Inspired by elements of Mediterranean, North African, and local East African design traditions, the Clay District seeks to demonstrate that housing can be both practical and inspiring.
Landscape‑first planning, shaded public spaces, community gardens, pedestrian‑friendly design, and local materials are all central to the concept.
PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATION
Organic City continues to benefit from the support, engagement, and collaboration of numerous stakeholders. The Tana River County Government has been a critical partner, formalizing the project through the swearing‑in of county investment and municipality boards and officially handing over land for development.
LOOKING FORWARD
The months ahead will focus on:
-
Mobilization and workforce development
-
Landscape initiatives and environmental design
-
Educational programming and training
-
Community engagement
-
Continued strengthening of the Organic City ecosystem
Great communities are not built overnight. They are built through consistent effort, thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a willingness to think beyond what exists today.
Organic City continues to move forward.
Project by project.
Partnership by partnership.
We are building a legacy.
